Crowley, Anderson Team Up in OT as Bentley Upends No. 6 Adelphi, 3-2

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Seniors Rachel Crowley (Leicester, Mass./Notre Dame Acad.) and Tess Anderson (Stow, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS) teamed up to score off a penalty corner 7:49 into the first overtime as Bentley University upended Adelphi University, 3-2, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Wednesday night at Motamed Field.

Bentley, which never held the lead until netting the game-winner, extended its winning streak to three while handing the Panthers their first loss in 11 matches. Adelphi, ranked sixth nationally in Division II, was knocked out of first place in the conference.

After the visitors were awarded their second corner of the extra session, Anderson inserted the ball to Crowley. She gathered the ball, moved it inside the circle and fired it. The ball went off the defender's stick, up in the air and down into the cage for her 11th goal of the season, tied for second most in the NE10.

The Falcons came back to tie the game twice in regulation, with freshman Madison Halas (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate) scoring her first career goal with 5:10 left in the first half and junior Sam Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) tallying her fourth of the year with 12:33 remaining in regulation.

Adelphi (12-3, 10-2 NE10) held the lead for over 33 minutes as the result of an early goal from freshman Gina McKeough (Carle Place, N.Y.) and one from junior Jackie Brown (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) midway through the third quarter.

Sophomore Kayleigh Vogel (Greenland, N.H./Portsmouth HS) gained the win in net for Bentley with three saves. Stephanie Peragallo (Hauppauge, N.Y.), a grad student who took her first loss of the season for Adelphi, made six saves.

Bentley (7-8, 5-6 NE10) had the advantage in both shots (16-12) and penalty corners (7-5).

Bentley will close out its home schedule Saturday with a noon contest against Stonehill College.
