Ingersoll’s Game-Winner Lifts Bentley Past St. Michael’s, 2-1

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Senior Keally Ingersoll (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge HS) broke a 1-1 deadlock 38 seconds into the fourth quarter and the Bentley University Falcons went on to post a 2-1 win over St. Michael's College in non-conference field hockey Tuesday afternoon at Duffy Field.

Ingersoll fielded the ball after a Falcon shot was blocked and backhanded it into the lower right corner of the cage for her fourth of the season.

Bentley had earlier held a 1-0 lead following the seventh goal of the season from senior Tess Anderson (Stow, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS) with 3:51 left in the opening period. That lead was short-lived as St. Michael's answered about two-and-a-half minutes later with junior Isabel Bretz (York, Maine) the goal scorer.

Senior defender Sam Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) preserved the win for Bentley with a defensive save with less than two minutes remaining following a barrage of shots from St. Michael's. Sophomore goalie Kayleigh Vogel (Greenland, N.H./Portsmouth HS) stopped the first, the second hit the post and Simione denied the last one.

That was the third save for Vogel. Her counterpart from St. Michael's, junior Talia Torkomian (Lincoln, R.I.), was credited with 11 saves.

Bentley (5-8) outshot the home team 20-14 but St. Michael's (2-11) had the advantage in penalty corners, 13-9.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday with a 1 pm home game against Molloy College.
