Two 4th-Quarter Goals Lift AIC Past Bentley, 4-2

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshman Kirstin Snethlage (Den Hoorn, Netherlands) broke a 2-all tie 65 seconds into the fourth quarter and senior Chelsea Davis (Boonton, N.J.) added an insurance goal with 5:09 to play, leading American International College to a 4-2 win over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon on the Bentley Turf Field.

AIC improved to 6-2 overall and balanced its conference record at 2-2. Bentley dropped under .500 for the first time, falling to 3-4 overall and 2-3 NE10.

The Falcons were the first to get on the scoreboard with senior Rachel Crowley (Leicester/Notre Dame Academy) netting her sixth of the season with just under four minutes remaining in the opening quarter. The advantage was short lived as AIC senior Jenny Holmquist (Gray, Maine) countered with the first of her two goals about two minutes later.

Holmquist's second goal, with 11:28 left in the second, gave the Yellow Jackets the lead and the opening half finished at 2-1. Bentley got the equalizer early in the third as senior Sam Pavano (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) scored her first of the season.

Snethlage's game-winner was her first career goal as a collegian.

AIC, which received four saves from freshman Nikki Bates (Agawam) in her collegiate debut, had the most scoring opportunities, finishing with a 14-7 advantage in shots and 10-4 in penalty corners.

On Tuesday, Bentley will be at Assumption for a 4 pm contest. That time was changed due to the EEE threat.
