Franklin Pierce Avenges Earlier Loss with 3-2 Win over Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Franklin Pierce freshman Demi Sahuleka (Dieren, Netherlands) broke a 1-1 tie late in the first half and the Ravens went on to avenge an earlier loss to Bentley University, 3-2 in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey on the Bentley Turf Field Wednesday night.

The result continued a season-long pattern of alternating wins and losses for Bentley, which dropped to 3-3 overall and 2-2 NE10. Franklin Pierce improved to 2-1 in the conference and 3-4 overall.

Sahuleka's go-ahead goal came less than two minutes after Bentley tied the game on a second-quarter goal from senior Tess Anderson (Stow/Nashoba Reg. HS), her fourth of the season.

After a scoreless third quarter, Franklin Pierce extended its lead in the opening minute of the fourth, with sophomore Feline van Doorn (Barendrecht, Netherlands) finding the back of the net.

Bentley pulled within one with 35 seconds but the Ravens were able to run out the clock to preserve the victory. Scoring her team-leading fifth for the Falcons was senior Rachel Crowley (Leicester/Notre Dame Academy).

Junior Olivia Barnes (Greenwich, N.Y.) made six saves for Franklin Pierce and stopped a Falcon penalty stroke in the second quarter. Sophomore Kayleigh Vogel (Greenland, N.H./Portsmouth HS) was credited with seven saves for Bentley.

Franklin Pierce controlled play most of the night and finished with three more shots, 16-13, and two more corners, 10-8.

The next game for Bentley is Saturday at 3:30 pm against American International.
