Crowley & Simione Score as Bentley Edges Southern Connecticut, 2-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Rachel Crowley (Leicester, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) and junior Sam Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) scored to lead Bentley University to a 2-1 win over Southern Connecticut State in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon at Jess Dow Field.

Bentley continued to alternate wins and losses this season, improving to 3-2 overall and 2-1 conference. Southern remained winless after six contests, including three in NE10 action.

Crowley opened the game's scoring with her fourth of the season coming off a rebound in the fourth minute of the second quarter. Following a flurry of shots, she knocked the ball into the cage.

Midway through the second half, Simione converted on a penalty stroke, driving it into the upper left corner of the cage.

The shutout bid of sophomore Kaileigh Vogel (Greenland, N.H./Portsmouth HS) was denied with just under six minutes left in the final stanza. She finished with five saves.

Southern senior netminder Brianna Craft (Hamden, Conn.) made an incredible 23 saves, the most in Division II so far this season, as Bentley peppered the goal with 33 shots, including 26 on net. On the other hand, the Owls has only eight shots, including five on net.

Bentley's next match is at home Wednesday at 6 pm against Franklin Pierce.
