No. 5 Saint Anselm Spreads Offense Around in 5-0 Shutout of Bentley

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Second-quarter goals from senior Michelle Lemelin (Chelsea, Maine) and sophomore Carly LaCasse (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) scored about three minutes apart in the second quarter and Saint Anselm College went on to a 5-0 win over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Wednesday night at Grappone Stadium.

Saint Anselm, ranked fifth nationally in Division II, stayed unbeaten at 4-0 overall and 2-0 NE10. Bentley dropped to 2-2 overall, with both losses coming against the Hawks, and 1-1 in conference.

The home team, which outshot Bentley 17-3, broke the game open with third-quarter goals from senior Hannah Friend (North Easton, Mass.), junior Ericka Meissner (Falmouth, Mass.) and senior Emma Bartle (Acton, Mass.), the last two only 64 seconds apart.

Junior Julia Hand (Reading, Mass.) played the first three quarters in net for Saint Anselm and had one save.

For Bentley, sophomore Kayleigh Vogel (Greenland, N.H./Portsmouth HS) stopped nine, including two late in the first stanza to keep the game scoreless.

Bentley is back in action Saturday at noon at Southern Connecticut State.
