Vogel Authors Shutout as Bentley Blanks Franklin Pierce, 3-0

RINDGE, N.H. –Making her first career start, freshman goalie Kayleigh Vogel (Greenland, N.H./ Portsmouth HS) blanked Franklin Pierce University to lead Bentley University to a 3-0 victory in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Tuesday afternoon at Sodexho Field.

Vogel made three saves in the lightning-interrupted contest as Bentley improved to 9-6 overall and 5-5 NE10. Franklin Pierce slipped under .500 to 6-7 overall, including 3-5 conference.

Vogel was supported by the offense of senior Morgan Van Epps (Clifton Park, N.Y./ Shenendehowa HS), who had both a goal and an assist. She netted the Falcons' first goal in the ninth minute, shortly after play resumed after a lengthy break, and set up a goal from senior Rachel Crowley (Leicester, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) with less than two minutes left until intermission.

Junior Tess Anderson (Stow, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS) completed the game's scoring in the 49th minute. It was her 15th goal of the season, tying her for second most in the conference.

Bentley controlled play as the Falcons totaled 14 shots and a dozen penalty corners. In contrast, the Ravens finished with six shots and three corners.

Bentley is back at home Saturday for a noon start against Assumption College.
