Adelphi Rallies in 2nd to Top Bentley, 2-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Jackie Brown (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) scored twice in the second half, including the game-winner with just over ten minutes to play, to lead visiting Adelphi University to a 2-1 win over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Wednesday afternoon.

Bentley, which had opened the season with a 4-1 win over Adelphi, dropped to 8-5 overall and 4-5 in conference play. Adelphi won for the fifth time in six NE10 contests and improved to 6-4 overall.

After more than 30 scoreless minutes, Bentley senior Morgan Van Epps (Clifton Park, N.Y./ Shenendehowa HS) gave the Falcons the lead when she scored her sixth of the fall with 2:32 left until intermission with a nice scoop of the ball into the cage. Providing the assist was freshman Christine Murray (Westwood/Walpole HS).

Brown squared the game at one apiece when she was successful on a penalty stroke with 25:50 left.

Fifteen-and-a-half minutes later, Brown netted what proved to be the game-winner, off a centering pass from sophomore Danielle Kempf (Burnt Hills, N.Y.).

Bentley had a final opportunity when it was awarded its tenth penalty corner as time expired. However, the hard shot attempt by junior Sam Pavano (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) was denied by Panther freshman netminder Leah Savage (Skowhegan, Maine), her seventh save.

Bentley outshot the visitors 12-9 and also finished with four more corners.

The Falcons will play their next two on the road, beginning Saturday at 1 pm at Southern New Hampshire.
