SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior captain Rachel Crowley (Leicester/Notre Dame Acad.) scored twice in a span of 10:13 surrounding intermission, helping Bentley University post a 4-2 win over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Tuesday night at Abdow Field.
Bentley squared its conference record at 3-3 and improved to 7-4 overall. AIC lost for the eighth time in nine games this fall with its NE10 record dipping to 1-3.
The Falcons trailed most of the first half after junior Chelsea Davis (Boonton, N.J.) scored off a penalty corner in the eighth minute. Crowley made it a 1-1 game with 2:53 left in the first half after deflecting a pass from sophomore Sam Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) into the cage.
Bentley opened a 3-1 lead with a pair of goals in the first 7:20 of the second half. Junior Sam Pavano (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) gave the Falcons with lead, with senior Morgan Van Epps (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa HS) credited with the assist. A little more than three minutes later, Crowley netted her third of the fall with senior captain Niki Neidhart (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS) on the assist.
After AIC reduced the differential to one, Bentley junior Tess Anderson (Stow/ Nashoba Reg. HS) provided insurance with her tenth goal of the season coming with 2:20 to play. The last Falcon to have that many goals in a season was Gina Lirange in 2014.
Senior Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) earned the win in goal for Bentley with three saves. For AIC, freshman Jessica Stone (Fredericksburg, Va.) was credited with six saves.
Shots favored the visitors, 15-10, and penalty corners were even at six apiece.
The next action for Bentley is at home on Friday afternoon against the University of New Haven.
