EASTON, Mass. – Led by reigning Division II National Player of the Year Kacie Smith (Norwood), Stonehill College blanked Bentley University, 5-0, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium.

Smith, one of six players in Division II history with over 200 career points, recorded her second hat trick of the season while helping the second-ranked team in Division II improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 NE10.

Smith opened the scoring midway through the first half and added two goals in a span of 19 seconds with under nine minutes to play.

The other goal scorers for Stonehill were senior Carly Anderson (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshman Emma Mawn (Harwich). Anderson's goal made it a 2-0 game with just under ten minutes left in the first half, and Mawn extended the Skyhawk lead to 3-0 nine minutes into the second half.

Despite the score, Bentley had the edge in shots, 14-13, and penalty corners, 6-4. Senior Sara Freedman (Hopkinton) made nine saves to earn the shutout.

Bentley, 5-3 overall and 2-2 NE10, will host St. Thomas Aquinas in a non-conference contest Thursday at 6 pm.
