Nine Players Score as Bentley Closes Out Season with 12-0 Win over New Haven

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Sam Pavano (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) posted a hat trick, junior Morgan Van Epps (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa HS) scored twice and seven other Falcons also put the ball in the net as Bentley University closed out the season with a 12-0 shutout of the University of New Haven in non-conference field hockey action Friday afternoon at Bentley.

The dozen goals tied the Bentley single game school record, set 17 years ago against American International. The Falcons, who had a 36-1 shot advantage against the first-year program as well as all 18 of the game's penalty corners, jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the contest was ten minutes old and led 7-0 at the halftime break.

Pavano was responsible for the Falcons' second, sixth and ninth goals, and also provided the assist on the third goal. Van Epps made it 4-0 midway through the opening half and completed the game's scoring with 12:51 left.

Four Falcons scored their first career goal, including senior defender Caitlin Derrickson (Wilmington/Central Catholic HS) who was playing her 63rd and final game as a collegian. The other first-timers were freshmen Samantha Brown (Byfield/Triton Regional HS), Dimitra Efremidis (North Easton/Oliver Ames HS) and Samantha D'Aquila (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield HS).

Rounding out the list of Bentley goal scorers were sophomore Tess Anderson (Stow/Nashoba Reg. HS) with her second of the season, senior Rebecca Schroder (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) with her fourth and senior Katie Quilty (Marstons Mills/Barnstable HS) with her first. Quilty was also credited with an assist.

Freshman Natalie Shaker (Newtown, Conn.) finished with 14 saves for New Haven (0-13). Bentley also had a freshman in goal with Tatiana Naclerio (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow HS) needing to make only one stop.

Bentley's 12 goals matched the highest total in Division II this season and the Falcons' nine assists and 33 points were Division II highs for the year.

Bentley finished the season at 6-11 overall with a 6-4 record over the final ten games. Coach Jessica Spencer will lose six to graduation: Derrickson, Schroder, Quilty, Taylor Kane (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty HS), Claire Virkler (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa HS) and Eva Michaliszyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest HS). All started their final game and Kane played in every game during her four seasons.
