Bentley Uses Season-High 4 Goals to Best St. Michael’s, 4-2

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University sophomore Sam Pavano (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) broke a 1-1 tie with 6:22 left in the first half and the Falcons went on to post a 4-2 win over St. Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Wednesday afternoon on the Bentley turf.

Pavano was one of four Falcons to score as her team had its highest scoring performance of the season. The other goals were scored by a trio of juniors: Frankie Tossona (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn HS), Niki Neidhart (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS) and Morgan Van Epps (Clifton Park, N.Y./ Shenendehowa HS).

Barely two minutes after St. Michael's picked up the game's first goal, Bentley was awarded a penalty stroke. Tossona took it and delivered her first goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1 in the 11th minute.

Bentley took a 3-1 lead into the half after striking twice in the final 6:22. Following Pavano's blast from just inside the circle after a corner, Neidhart took her turn, netting her team-leading fifth of the season with 2:34 remaining until intermission. The assister on Pavano's goal knocked in her own rebound and finished with three points for the game.

Junior Morgan Johnston (Newburyport) made it a one-goal game with 16:42 to play, and it stayed that way until Van Epps added an insurance goal with 3:47 remaining.

Freshman Tatiana Naclerio (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow HS) earned the win in net for the Falcons, making one save.

Shots favored the home team, 10-6, while St. Michael's had the advantage in corners, 6-4.

Bentley will be back home on Saturday, hosting Franklin Pierce at noon. That will be both the team's Senior Day and Pink Day.
