2 Goals by Knell Lifts Bentley Past AIC, 3-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder Christa Knell (Watertown/Watertown HS) scored twice for the second straight game as Bentley University topped American International College, 3-0, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon at Bentley.

Following a scoreless first half, Knell drove the ball into the cage 4:59 into the second half, scoring off a corner taken by junior Niki Neidhart (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS). She made it a 2-0 game with 14 minutes left, again scoring on a shot from near the circle. The assist came from junior Morgan Van Epps (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa HS).

Junior Mikayla Ullrich (Montclair, N.J./Montclair HS) completed the scoring with 68 seconds left, finishing a penalty corner with assists credited to senior Rebecca Schroder (South Windsor, Conn./ South Windsor HS) and sophomore Sam Pavano (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS).

The shutout was the first of the season for junior Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS), who only had to make two saves as her teammates kept the play in the AIC half of the field most of the time. The Falcons (2-7, 2-3 NE10) finished with a 23-3 shot advantage and attempted 17 penalty corners (only three for AIC).

Bentley will be back at home Wednesday for a 6 pm game against Southern New Hampshire.
