No. 4 LIU Post Rallies in 2nd Half for 3-1 Win over Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Senior Kaycee Zelkovsky (Lambertville, N.J.) was involved two of LIU Post's three second-half goals as the fourth-ranked team in Division II rallied from a halftime deficit to top Bentley University, 3-1, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action Saturday.

It was Bentley that got on the scoreboard first with junior Niki Neidhart (San Diego, Caiif./ Scripps Ranch HS) netting her third of the season 4:53 before the halftime break. Coming off a corner, the goal was assisted by senior Eva Michaliszyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest HS).

The Falcons maintained the 1-0 advance until freshman Kate Melvin (Milford, Del.) lifted the ball into cage after a deflection, making it a 1-1 game in the 43rd minute.

The game-winner was scored about 11-and-a-half minutes later, with 16:12 left in regulation. The Pioneers were awarded a penalty stroke and Zelkovsky made it hurt, giving LIU Post a 2-1 advantage. Four minutes later, Zevkowsky provided the assist as junior Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) added an insurance goal.

LIU Post freshman goalie Rachel Vellis (Wayne, N.J.) needed to make only one save as shots (24-4) and penalty corners (18-4) heavily favored the visitors. Junior Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) made nine saves for Bentley (0-7, 0-3 NE10).

Bentley returns to action Tuesday evening at Southern Connecticut State.
