4-Goal 1st-Half Propels Stonehill to 5-0 Win over Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior forward Kacie Smith (Norwood) and sophomore back Michaela Antonellis (Watertown) each had two goals and an assist as Stonehill College blanked Bentley University, 5-0, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Wednesday evening.

Four of the Skyhawks' five goals were scored before intermission, including the three that Smith was involved with. The conference's leading scorer with 15 goals and seven assists staked her team to the lead in the 13th minute as she gathered a loose ball in the midfield and scored on a breakaway.

Barely two minutes later, after a Falcon defensive save by junior Frankie Tossona (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn HS), Antonellis drove the ball into the cage for a 2-0 lead. It was one of two defensive saves for Tossona on the night.

Smith added a goal and an assist before the opening half concluded, scoring at 24:59 and assisting on Antonellis' second at 27:27.

Junior forward Carly Andersen (Cheshire, Conn.) accounted for the only scoring of the second half, netting her sixth of the season just 58 seconds after play resumed.

Junior Sara Freedman (Hopkinton) earned her second shutout for Stonehill (4-3. 1-0 NE10), which finished with advantages of 18-5 in shots and 10-5 in penalty corners.

For Bentley, junior Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) had seven first-half saves and freshman Tatiana Naclerio (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow HS) made four stops in the second.

The Falcons (0-6, 0-2 NE10) will be back at home on Saturday, hosting nationally-ranked LIU Post at 11 am.
