Ingersoll’s Late Goal Not Enough as Bentley Falls at Franklin Pierce, 2-1

RINDGE, N.H. – Despite a late game-tying goal from sophomore forward Keally Ingersoll (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge HS), the Bentley University Falcons dropped a 2-1 decision to Franklin Pierce University in non-conference field hockey action Tuesday evening at Sodexho Field.

After the visiting Falcons trailed for nearly 50 minutes, Ingersoll scored her first of the season with 13:05 left in the second half. Following a failed clear by the keeper, junior Mikayla Ullrich (Montclair, N.J./Montclair HS) won a race to the fall and sent it to Ingersoll, who knocked it into an empty net.

]It remained 1-1 for only 49 seconds, senior Carly Canavan (Kingston, N.Y.) restoring the advantage to the home team on a rebound after a save by Bentley junior Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS).

The game's first goal was scored just over eight minutes after the opening whistle, senior Erin Smith (Templeton) putting the ball in the cage with a reverse shot after a feed from freshman Nicole McDowell (Yarmouth, Maine).

Senior Meaghan Williams (Salem, N.H.) earned the win in goal for the 3-2 Ravens, making four saves, while Mones finished with eight for the Falcons.

Bentley, 0-4 after its third straight one-goal loss, was outshot 13-8 and attempted only two penalty corners, three less than Franklin Pierce.

Bentley will look to crack the win column Saturday when it begins the Northeast-10 portion of its schedule at Assumption College (12 noon).
