WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Emily Power (Yorktown Heights, N.Y) and senior Jamie Ahrens (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) were successful on their attempts during a shootout, lifting number ten Adelphi University to a 3-2 win over host Bentley University in non-conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon.

After the two clubs completed 100 minutes of action, including two 15-minute overtime sessions, even at 2-2, the Panthers outscored the Falcons 2-0 during the four-round shootout. Two of Bentley's shot attempts went wide and the other two were denied by senior goalie Amanda Gargiulo (Westbury, N.Y.). Bentley junior Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) stopped one of the four she faced and another went wide.

Mones came up big during the two overtime periods, making seven of her 13 saves. Adelphi, after being limited to three penalty corners in regulation, had four during the extra sessions and outshot the Falcons 12-1.

Power's tip-in in the 13th minute staked Adelphi to the game's early lead. It remained that way until Bentley junior and Syracuse transfer Niki Neidhart (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS) scored her first Falcon goal nearly four minutes into the second half.

Senior co-captain Rebecca Schroder (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) staked Bentley to a 2-1 advantage in the 55th minute and it stayed a Falcon advantage until only 5:25 was left in regulation. Ahrens scored on a drive from outside with sophomore Elissa Frein (Carle Place, N.Y.) picking up her second assist of the contest.

Overall, Adelphi had the shot advantage, 25-12, and penalty corners were dominated by the Falcons, 12-7. Bentley had 11 of the first 12 while the Panthers were awarded six of the last seven.

Bentley fell to 0-3 on the young season while Adelphi picked up its first win in four attempts.

The Falcons return to action Tuesday with a 7 pm non-conference match at Franklin Pierce.
