MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Maddie Holt (Seabrook, N.H.) scored twice, once in each half, and classmate Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) recorded ten saves as Southern New Hampshire blanked visiting Bentley University, 2-0, in non-conference field hockey action Thursday night at Larkin Field. It was the season-opener for both clubs.
After the Penmen missed an early penalty stroke, Holt put her team on the scoreboard with 11:47 left in the first half. She fired the ball into the far left corner, off a pass from sophomore Laura Van Doorn (The Netherlands).
Holt tacked on an insurance goal with seven minutes to play, knocking in a rebound after a shot by senior Erin Frost (East Hanover, N.H.).
Bentley had the edge statistically (12-9 shots, 7-2 penalty corners) but couldn't put the ball past Rennie.
Junior Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) recorded three saves for the Falcons and freshman Sam Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) added a defensive save in her collegiate debut.
Bentley will return to action Wednesday when it begins its home schedule with a non-conference match-up with Merrimack College.
