Pavano Goal Lifts Bentley Past Franklin Pierce in OT, 1-0

RINDGE, N.H. – Freshman midfielder Sam Pavano (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) scored the game's only goal in the seventh minute of the first overtime to give Bentley University a 1-0 victory over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Sodexo Field.

Following an attempted clear by the Ravens, Pavano fielded the loose ball just inside the circle on the right side and drilled it past Franklin Pierce junior netminder Meaghan Williams (Salem, N.H.) for her first career game-winner. It was Pavano's fifth goal of the year, a category in which she ranks second on the team.

The shutout belonged to senior Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS), her second of the season and sixth of her career. She was credited with just one goal, and she was aided by the 23rd career defensive save from senior midfielder Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./Madison HS). Williams finished with two saves for the Ravens (3-12, 0-10 NE-10).

Shots were even at five apiece and Bentley had a 4-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Bentley (7-9, 5-5 NE-10) returns to action Tuesday with a 4 pm contest at LIU Post.
