EASTON, Mass. – Sophomore Carly Anderson (Cheshire, Conn.) scored a pair of unassisted goals, separated by 2:45, to lift Stonehill College, the number five-ranked team in Division II, to a 2-0 win over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium.
Bentley, which was kept off the scoreboard for the sixth time this season, dropped to 6-7 overall and 4-3 in the conference. Stonehill notched its fourth straight win, improving to 9-2 overall and 6-1 NE-10.
Anderson broke a scoreless tie with 13 minutes to play when she shot the ball from left of the cage into the goal. Less than three minutes later, she knocked in a rebound for insurance and her seventh goal of the season.
Bentley senior goalie Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS) was credited with a career-high 17 saves, giving her 30 in her last two games, as the Falcons were outshot 28-11. Stonehill also had a significant advantage in penalty corners, 13-4.
The shutout was the sixth of the season for Stonehill sophomore Sara Freedman (Hopkinton), who finished with eight saves.
Bentley will be at home Tuesday night for a 6 pm encounter with Merrimack College.
