Bentley Takes No. 9 AIC to Overtime before Falling 2-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – American International College, ranked ninth in this week's NFHCA Division II national rankings, ran its winning streak to seven with a 2-1 overtime victory over visiting Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Abdow Field Tuesday night.

Following a penalty corner, a shot and a save, sophomore midfielder Anna King (Crook of Devon, Scotland) drove the game-winning goal into the back of the cage to end the contest 4:21 into the extra session.  Freshman back Chelsea Davis (Boonton, N.J.) took the initial shot and it was denied by Bentley senior netminder Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS).

AIC (7-1, 3-0 NE-10) took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute when senior forward Taylor Ruscillo (Carle Place, N.Y.) knocked in a rebound.

Bentley (5-5, 3-1 NE-10 after having its winning streak halted at three) drew even less than eight minutes later as senior midfielder Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./Madison HS) scored her team-best fifth goal of 2016. Sophomore forward Rachel Crowley (Leicester/Notre Dame Acad.) provided the assist.

Schaedel finished with five saves for the Falcons while sophomore Taylor Ross (Stroudsburg, Pa.) had two for AIC, which posted its fifth overtime loss already this season.

AIC finished with a 13-5 advantage in shots and attempted seven of the game's nine penalty corners.

Bentley will look to bounce back Saturday afternoon at St. Michael's College.
