NEWBERRY, S.C. – Sophomore Mikayla Ullrich (Montclair, N.J./Montclaire HS) assisted on two goals in a two-and-a-half minute span midway through the first half, propelling Bentley University to a 4-0 non-conference win over Newberry College at Setzler Field Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Keally Ingersoll (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge HS) was on the finishing end of Ullrich's first assist with her initial goal as a collegian staking the visitors to a 1-0 lead with 17:11 left in the first half. A little more than two minutes later, Ullich set up sophomore Rachel Crowley (Leicester/Notre Dame Academy), who made it a 2-0 game.
Bentley's advantage stood at three at intermission after senior captain Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./ Madison HS) scored in the final minute of the opening half.
The only goal of the second half was netted by freshman Sam Pavano (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS), in the 43rd minute off an assist from junior Taylor Kane (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty HS).
Combining on the shutout were senior Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS) and freshman Leah Kruse (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan HS). Schaedel made two saves in the first half and Kruse, in her collegiate debut, had three in the second.
Bentley finished with a 15-9 shot advantage but Newberry (0-2) took one more corner, 10-9.
Bentley, 2-2 after its second straight win, will remain in the Palmetto State for a Sunday matinee against Limestone College (12 noon).
