WALTHAM, Mass. – Goals by senior Molly Rowe (Newburyport/Newburyport HS), junior Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./Madison HS) and freshman Rachel Crowley (Leicester/Notre Dame Acad.), all in the final 14 minutes, lifted Bentley University to a 3-1 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action Friday night at Bentley.
The Falcons, who dominated play throughout, couldn't finish until Rowe scored off a corner with 13:31 left off an assist from sophomore Eva Michaliszyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest HS). Prior to Rowe evening the contest at 1-1, the visiting Penmen had maintained the lead for over 54 minutes, since freshman Cassidy Huckins (Boscawen, N.H.) scored her second of the year at 2:11 of the first on SNHU's only shot of the night.
A little more than two minutes after Rowe's goal, Ellis made it 2-1 when she banged in a rebound after a save by SNHU netminder Jill Piacitelli (East Greenwich, R.I.). It was one of ten saves for the sophomore and Ellis's first goal of the fall.
Crowley added some insurance with 4:34 left, picking up her second of the season when she deflected a shot off the stick of senior Meghan Talerman (Centerville/Barnstable HS).
Bentley peppered the SNHU defense with 33 shots and attempted all 16 of the game's penalty corners.
The victory boosted the Falcons to 3-2 overall, 3-0 at home and 1-0 in conference play. Meanwhile, SNHU's fourth straight loss dropped the Penmen to 2-4 overall and 0-1 NE-10.
