Talerman Goal Propels Bentley to 1-0 Win and into the NE-10 Championships

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Meghan Talerman (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable HS) scored the game's only goal with 4:17 left and classmate Katie Kelley (Walpole, Mass./Walpole HS) recorded her first shutout of the season as Bentley University edged Southern New Hampshire University, 1-0, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field.

The victory, Bentley's fourth straight to finish the regular season, clinched a spot in next week's conference championships for the Falcons. The Falcons (10-8, 6-5 NE-10) will be the number six seed and will play at third-seeded Adelphi University Tuesday at 4 pm in the first round.

After more than 65 minutes of scoreless field hockey, Talerman took a cross from senior Gina Lirange (Auburn, Mass./Auburn HS) and tapped it in from close range. The goal was her seventh of the season and second game-winner.

Kelley recorded two saves en route to the victory while watching her team outshoot the Penmen (1-17, 0-11) 17-3. Bentley also had seven of the game's eight penalty corners.

Freshman Jill Piacitelli (East Greenwich, R.I.) recorded nine saves for Southern New Hampshire, including eight before allowing the only goal.

Bentley played Adelphi once during the regular season, dropping a 1-0 decision at home on Oct. 18.
