Lirange Celebrates Senior Day with Hat Trick, including Game-Winner in OT

WALTHAM, Mass. – It was truly "Gina Day" at Bentley University as Gina Lirange (Auburn/ Auburn HS), the team's only member of the Class of 2015, celebrated Senior Day with a hat trick, including the game-winner 9:09 into overtime, to give the Falcons a 3-2 overtime win over Southern Connecticut State in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon at Bentley.

Bentley's second overtime win of the week boosted the Falcons to 8-8 overall (4-5 NE-10) and kept the team's hopes of qualifying for the conference championships alive.

Her 11th career game-winner came as she back-handed the ball into the upper half of the cage. It gave her ten goals for the season and 33 for her career with the hat trick her second.

Lirange's earlier goal also came on a ball lifted into the cage and tied the contest at 2-2 with 4:32 left in the first half.

In the 16th minute, Lirange drove the ball into the left corner of the cage to give Bentley a 1-0 lead.  The next two goals belonged to the Owls (2-14, 0-9 NE-10), with junior Lauren Anderson (Cheshire, Conn.) scoring her third at 17:35 and freshman Emma Farrel (Cheshire, Conn.) netting her fifth at 28:09.

Bentley finished with a 29-13 shot advantage, although it was Southern that had the edge in the overtime, 5-3. Junior Katie Kelley (Walpole/Walpole HS) finished with seven saves for Bentley and Audrey Doloff (Raynham), also a junior, has 12 saves for Southern.

Bentley will finish out the regular season with games at St. Michael's Tuesday and Southern New Hampshire Saturday. The Falcons are tied with St. Michael's for eighth in the NE-10 and are currently one game behind sixth-place Franklin Pierce, which owns the tie-breaker over Bentley.
