AIC Edges Bentley, 3-2; Talerman & Lirange Score for Falcons

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –American International College sophomore Taylor Ruscillo (Carle Place, N.Y.) scored 20 seconds before intermission to break a 1-1 tie and the Yellow Jackets went on to post a 3-2 win over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon at Abdow Field.

Bentley, which had beaten AIC 5-2 last month at home, remained winless on the road, dropping to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the NE-10. The Yellow Jackets, on the other hand, improved to 8-6 overall (4-3 conference) with their fourth straight win.

The home team opened the scoring in the 19th minute with senior Jenna Masionis (Ashland) netting the first of her two goals. The Falcons came back with the equalizer with 8:18 left in the half, junior Meghan Talerman (Centerville/Barnstable HS) scoring her fourth of the season.

Masionis, who assisted on Ruscillo's go-ahead goal, extended her team's lead to 3-1 when she scored her 14th of the year with just under 15 minutes to play.

Down 3-1, Bentley staged a late rally with senior Gina Lirange (Auburn/Auburn HS) knocking the ball into the cage with 2:12 left, off a pass from junior Becca Moore (Belmont/Belmont HS).

The Falcons kept the pressure on with the game ending with junior goalie Ainslee Penfield (Greenfield) denying a shot by sophomore Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./Madison HS) following a penalty corner with no time remaining.

Penfield finished with nine saves while junior Katie Kelley (Walpole/Walpole HS) had three for Bentley. The Falcons also received a defensive save from Ellis, her Division II-leading 13th of the year.

Bentley will be back at home Tuesday night for a 7 pm game with Merrimack College.
