Howard Nets Game-Winner as Bentley Tops No. 10 Saint Anselm, 3-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough HS) scored her second goal of the season with 4:02 on the first-half clock to break a 1-1 tie and propel Bentley University to a 3-1 win over Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Tuesday night at Bentley.

Saint Anselm, which came into the contest ranked tenth in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association/Penn Monto Division II coaches poll, jumped on top first with junior Richelle Davis (Enfield, Conn.) netting her first of the season at 13:42.

The lead lasted about eight minutes until junior Leah Winer (Longmeadow/Longmeadow HS) got Bentley on the scoreboard at 21:43, her fifth of the season set up by senior Gina Lirange (Auburn/Auburn HS).

Bentley added an insurance goal with 7:12 left when sophomore Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./ Madison HS) found the back of the cage after a pass from junior Becca Moore (Belmont/Belmont HS).

Junior Katie Kelley (Walpole/Walpole HS) earned the win in goal for Bentley. She made four saves while sophomore Katherine Sears (Northboro) turned away six for Saint Anselm.

The Falcons finished with advantages of 13-10 in shots and 8-5 in penalty corners.

Bentley improved to 6-5 overall while squaring its conference record at 2-2. Saint Anselm dropped its third straight to fall to 5-4 overall and 1-3 NE-10.
