No. 8 Adelphi Uses 2nd-Half Goal to Edge Bentley, 1-0

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Junior Mary Plotas (Brookeville, Md.) scored the game's only goal 15 minutes into the second half to give Adelphi University, the eighth-ranked team in Division II, a 1-0 win over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon at Bentley.

Adelphi remained unbeaten in NE-10 action, improving to 8-2 overall and 3-0 conference following its eighth win in its last nine contests. The Falcons fell to 5-5 overall, with all five losses coming against teams ranked in the NFHCA Division II top ten, and 1-2 NE-10.

Plotas' sixth of the year, assisted by sophomore Lena Pollich (Massapequa, N.Y.), came on a shot to the far post from just inside the circle.

Bentley controlled play for most of the afternoon, outshooting the Panthers 18-8 and having the game's only five penalty corners of the first half. However, they were unable to put the ball past Adelphi junior keeper Kelly Serrao (Lake Hiawatha, N.J.), who finished with eight saves. She was helped out by a defensive save posted by Rachel Colvin (Vernon, N.J.) in the ninth minute.

Junior Katie Kelley (Walpole/Walpole HS) made four saves for Bentley.

Bentley will remain at home to host Saint Anselm Tuesday night at 7 pm.
