Lirange, Moore & Howard Named Bentley Field Hockey Captains

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior forward Gina Lirange (Auburn/Auburn HS) and junior midfielders Becca Moore (Belmont/Belmont HS) and Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough HS) will be the captains of the 2014 Bentley University field hockey team, head coach Jessica Spencer announced. Lirange was also a team captain a year ago.

All three were named to the Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad in both 2012 and 2013.

Lirange, a 2013 first-team All-Northeast-10 honoree, led the Falcons in scoring last year with five of her 12 goals game-winners. Her 31 total points ranked ninth in the conference and she'll enter her final season with 23 goals and ten assists for 56 points.

"Gina is a natural leader and has been a major part of our success since her arrival," said Spencer, who led last year's team to an 11-8 overall record, including 7-3 at home.

Moore has played in every game for the Falcons over the last two seasons and was a fixture in last year's starting lineup. She recorded two goals and three assists during her first season as a full-time starter.

"Becca can change a game with her leadership and tenacity in the midfield," praised Spencer.

Howard, who is also a member of the Bentley women's lacrosse team, has also played in every game since her arrival on campus. During each of her first two seasons, she's recorded one goal and one assist.

"Kelsey is a great teammate and because she is a natural athlete, she has been able to play many different positions on the field very well," said Spencer.

Bentley, ranked tenth in Division II preseason, opens its season Sept. 5 at fourth-ranked West Chester University.
