WALTHAM, Mass. – Second-half goals from seniors Lisa Giorgetti (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) and Colleen Moran (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln HS) propelled Bentley University, the tenth-ranked team in Division II, to a 2-1 win over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Bentley Tuesday night.
Both goals came following penalty corners, and each was assisted by freshman Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./Madison HS). Giorgetti's, her first of the season and second career, came with 27:56 left in regulation, and Moran made it a two-goal game when she netted her fourth of the season with 13:30 remaining.
That goal proved necessary when sophomore Erin Trainor (Auburn) spoiled the shutout bid of sophomore Katie Kelley (Walpole/Walpole HS) with only 5.5 seconds to play.
Kelley made three saves, including a stop of a penalty strike midway through a scoreless opening half in which the visiting Ravens (1-11, 0-6 NE-10) controlled play. At the intermission, Franklin Pierce had seven of the game's ten shots and a 3-2 edge in penalty corners.
Penalty corners were reversed in the second half, and Bentley (8-5, 2-3 NE-10) had a 5-3 advantage in shots.
Freshman Amy Zahenski (Bow, N.H.) recorded four saves for Franklin Pierce.
Bentley's next game is Friday night when the Falcons will host American International at 7 pm.
