Undefeated LIU Post Pulls Away Late for 3-0 Win over Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Cindy Russell (Sound Beach, N.Y.) was successful on a penalty stroke in the 12th minute and senior Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) assisted on two late goals as LIU Post stayed unbeaten with a 3-0 win over host Bentley University Saturday in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action.

The Pioneers, ranked fifth in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II national coaches' poll, improved to 11-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference. Bentley, ranked ninth nationally to start the week, dipped to 7-5 overall and 1-3 in the NE-10 following its second straight shutout loss.

Russell gave the Pioneers the only goal they would need at 11:11 of the first. It was her third penalty stroke of the season and she's been perfect from the seven-yard mark.

It stayed a 1-0 game until freshman Melissa Quintanilla (Rome, N.Y.) netted her third goal of the fall, redirecting an entry pass from Dragon with 5:37 remaining on the second-half clock. Sophomore Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) made it a three-goal game when she tallied her 11th of the year with exactly 100 seconds left.

Pioneer freshman Meredith Stocklin (Mount Laurel, N.J.) made two saves with the shutout her second and the team's fifth. Sophomore Katie Kelley (Walpole/Walpole HS) was credited with three saves for Bentley, which was outshot 16-4.

Bentley will look to bounce back Tuesday when it hosts Franklin Pierce at 7 pm.
