SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The fifth shutout of the season for sophomore Katie Kelley (Walpole/ Walpole HS) and a pair of first-half goals lifted Bentley University to a 2-0 win over American International College in non-conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Butova Gym.
Bentley, with its fifth win in its last six games, improved to 5-2 while AIC, ranked tenth in this week's NFHCA Division II coaches poll, slipped to 4-3 on the year.
Kelley, the only Northeast-10 netminder with more than one shutout, recorded three saves en route to a shutout that lowered her goals against average to 0.99.
Freshman Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./Madison HS) accounted for the game-winner with her first career goal coming in the 24th minute, off an assist from junior Gina Lirange (Auburn/Auburn HS), the number two scorer in the conference.
About six minutes later, sophomore Meghan Talerman (Centerville/Barnstable HS) provided insurance, her fourth of the year assisted by classmate Sally James (Mequon, Wisc./Univ. School of Milwaukee).
Bentley outshot the Yellow Jackets 15-10, with AIC goalie Kori Huffman (Brattleboro, Vt.) making eight saves.
Bentley opens the Northeast-10 portion of its schedule next Saturday with a 1 pm contest at Assumption College.
