Talerman Nets Game-Winner as Bentley Tops AIC, 3-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Meghan Talerman (Centerville/Barnstable HS) scored the first-half's only goal with 12:14 left and Bentley University went on to a 3-1 win over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon at Abdow Field.

The victory, Bentley's second straight, elevated the Falcons to .500 overall (6-6) and into a tie for third in the NE-10 at 3-2.

Talerman brought the ball down the right side and shot into the left side of the cage for her fourth goal of the season, and second game-winner.

The Falcons added to their lead with unassisted second-half tallies by senior Beth Maguire (Medfield/Medfield HS) and sophomore Gina Lirange (Auburn/Auburn HS). Maguire's, from five yards out with 31:22 left, was her team-leading seventh of the year, and Lirange's, coming off a corner with about 22 minutes to play, was her fourth.

Bentley's shutout bid was spoiled with three minutes left, senior Lisa Duckles (Netcong, N.J.) netting the goal for the Yellow Jackets (2-11, 1-4 NE-10).

Senior Julia Powell (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) recorded four saves to earn the win in goal for the Falcons. Junior Kori Hoffman (Brattleboro, Vt.) stopped nine shots for AIC, and received two defensive saves from her teammates.

Bentley, which finished with twice as many shots (18-9), is back in action Wednesday afternoon with a 3:30 contest at Franklin Pierce.
