Bill Samko, a former head coach at Tufts University and the University of the South (Sewanee, Tenn.), is in his fifth year as Offensive Line Coach at Bentley University and his 48th year as a college football coach.

Samko’s lengthy resume includes 17 years as head coach at Tufts (1994-2010) and seven at Sewanee (1987-93). His career has featured back-to-back one-loss seasons at the University of the South (7-1-1 in 1991, 8-1 in 1992) and a 7-1 record at Tufts in 1999. Samko won a total of 57 games during his time at Tufts and was 35-27-1 with a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference titles at Sewanee. He was named the SCAC Coach of the Year twice, and in 1998, received Coach of the Year honors from the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston, the New England Football Writers and the New York Football Writers.

Before taking over the Sewanee program, Samko was an assistant coach at Tufts (1974-80) and Yale University (1981-86).  He joined the Bentley staff in 2017 following six seasons as an assistant at the College of the Holy Cross.

Samko, a Worcester native, is a 1973 graduate of the University of Connecticut where he played football and baseball.

Samko and his wife Mary Kay, Bentley’s long-time swim coach and aquatics director, have four children, including Michael, a 2018 Bentley graduate and a baseball player for the Falcons from 2015-19.
