WALTHAM, Mass. – Former Bentley University football standout Nick Athy (Holliston/Holliston HS) has been selected for the 2019 Jack Daly Award for Academics, Citizenship and Football by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

Named in honor of Jack Daly, a charter member of the Grinold Chapter and a longtime respected official, the Chapter presents the award to college football player at an institution in the Chapter footprint based upon academic performance, community service and demonstrated football ability.  Each of the three components of the award are weighted equally in the selection of the winner.  Collegiate student-athletes who have completed their junior and/or senior years of eligibility shall qualify for the award.

Athy will be honored Sunday night, May 19, when the Grinold Chapter holds its 44th annual Scholar-Athlete Banquet at the Boston-Newton Marriott. He is the third Bentley recipient of the award, following 2012 honoree Bryant Johnson and 2015 honoree Danny Guadagnoli.

Athy, a linebacker and team captain who will be graduating from Bentley on Saturday, was a two-time first-team All-Northeast-10 Conference performer for the Falcons as well as a two-time Academic All-Northeast-10 selection. He shifted to linebacker midway through the 2018 season after spending most of his career at safety.

Athy played in every game during his four years with Bentley and finished his career with 167 tackles, six interceptions, four fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles. In his final season, he was in on 46 stops and had both an interception and a forced fumble.

Athy, a finance major, also excelled in the classroom as he achieved a 3.59 grade point average. In addition to earning Academic All-Northeast-10 honors, he was a two-time Google Cloud Academic All-Super Region 1 selection.

In addition to his efforts on the field and in the classroom, Athy was involved with Cru and Athletes in Action at Bentley.

This will be the second time that Athy will be honored during the Grinold Chapter's Scholar-Athlete Banquet. Back in 2015, he was one of 33 high school students who were honored as scholar-athletes.
