Riding 2-Game Win Streak, Bentley Returns Home for Senior Day Game vs. Assumption

WALTHAM, Mass. – After stringing together consecutive wins for the first time this season, the Bentley University Falcons will wrap up its home schedule and play its penultimate game of 2018 Saturday afternoon against Assumption College. Kickoff is slated for noon and a free webcast will be available at portal.stretchinternet.com/Bentley.

Before the contest, Bentley will hold senior day activities and honor the team's 12 members of the Class of 2019.

The dozen are evenly split between offensive and defensive players. The offensive players include three linemen – Matt Boyle (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury HS), Ryan Finn (Centerport, N.Y./St. Anthony's HS) and Jack Hansbury (Tyngsboro/Chelmsford HS) – along with receivers Michael Correia (Fall River/Durfee HS), Drew Mahoney (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield Academy) and Jordan Zlogar (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa HS). All were starters on opening day, but injuries have prematurely ended Correia's and Mahoney's season.

On defense, the seniors are safety/linebacker Nick Athy (Holliston/Holliston HS), linebacker Andrew Carmichael (Wayland/Wayland HS), defensive back Jesse Clauss (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South HS), defensive lineman Brad Greenway (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial HS), linebacker Frank Henry (West Allenhurst, N.J./Ocean Township HS) and linebacker Brian Kirby (Gleneig, Md./River Hill HS). Injuries have hit that group as well with Clauss, Greenway and Henry sidelined.

Bentley has improved to 3-5 overall and 3-4 overall with wins over Stonehill, 38-10, and Saint Anselm, 20-16, the last two weeks.

Assumption, 5-3 overall and 5-2 NE10, saw its bid to repeat as Northeast-10 champions denied the last two weeks with losses to the conference's top two teams. The Greyhounds fell at New Haven, 27-21, on Oct. 20 and were quieted by LIU Post last Saturday, 21-7.

The two teams met in the regular season finale last year and Bentley upended the then-unbeaten Hounds 35-31 in what may have been the most impressive win in Bill Kavanaugh's five seasons at the helm. Freshman Austin Ryan (Foxboro/Foxboro HS), who has been sidelined by injury all this season, was spectacular as he teamed up with classmate Stephen Sturm (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley HS) to catch eight balls for a school record 284 yards and four TDs (2, 60, 63 and 50 yards). Three of the four, including the last two, gave Bentley the lead with the game-winner coming with 94 seconds left.

Bentley's rushing game has produced a total of 501 yards and three 100-yard rushers the last two weeks. Juniors Jordan Artope (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) and Tommy Wilson (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) each hit the century mark in the Stonehill game and sophomore Andrew Brazicki (Franklin Park, N.J./Bishop Ahr HS) ran through the rain for a career-high 143 yards on 32 carries at Saint Anselm. Included was the game-winning TD with 2:47 left.

Brazicki, seventh in the NE10 in rushing yards, leads the Falcons with 469 yards and three scores, and Artope follows with 335 yards and four TDs. Zlogar is the team's top receiver with 31 for 362 yards and two TDs.

At Saint Anselm, the Falcons' 14th takeaway of the season led to Brazicki's go-ahead TD. Freshman Cedric Dashiell II (Buena Park, Calif./Buena Park HS) deflected a pass and subsequently forced a fumble after it was caught by the QB and it was recovered by junior Matt Yanes (Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg HS).

Carmichael leads the Falcons in tackles with 57, one more than two-time second-team All-Conference corner Pete Thorbahn (Norwell/Xaverian Brothers HS). Thorbahn has a team-best four interceptions this season and has 11 for his career.

The Bentley defense will be tested this week by Assumption, which has one of the conference's premier offenses. The Hounds lead the NE10 in scoring (37.5), total offense (419.3), first downs (22.4) and rushing TDs (22), and are highly ranked in a number of other categories.

Senior QB Cody Williams has completed 66 percent of his throws for 1,634 yards and 16 TDs, including six to dangerous receiver/kick returner Deonte Harris. He's caught 32 balls for 548 yards and has 358 return yards. Against Merrimack earlier in the year, he returned a kick the distance for the 13th time in his career.

The Greyhound D has 45 tackles for losses, including ten sacks, and 13 takeaways. Senior linebacker Kaleb Silva has been a standout with five TFL, a sack, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.

Bentley will wrap up the 2018 campaign a week from Saturday at American International.

BENTLEY BRIEFS: The Falcons lead the all-time series 27-4 with Assumption having won two straight before last year's impressive Bentley win out in Worcester … here in Waltham, Bentley had won 14 in a row before dropping the last two … freshman Isaiah Collins (Dorchester Center/Belmont Hill School) is second in the NE10 in kickoff returns (481 yards, 26.7 average) after amassing 133 yards on three returns at Saint Anselm … Bentley is third in Division II in fewest penalties and fewest penalty yards per game at 3.75 flags for 33 yards.
