WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore QB Stephen Sturm (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley HS) threw two TD passes and both sophomore Tommy Wilson (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) and junior Jordan Artope (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson HS) rushed for at least 100 yards as Bentley University overpowered visiting Stonehill College, 38-10, in Northeast-10 Conference action Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons, who were six of seven on fourth-down conversions, established a number of season-bests, including points, total offense (516), rushing yards (289), total plays (85), first downs (29) and possession time (37:40).

Both teams started fast with each marching downfield for a TD in the game's first 2:32. After Stonehill junior running back Brian Kearns, Jr. put his team in front with a three-yard run, Bentley quickly countered with a 65-yard sprint down the left side by Wilson, his first career touchdown coming on his inaugural carry of the season.

Bentley took the lead on its next possession, a two-yard end-around by junior wide receiver Ryan McCarthy (Holden/Wachusett Reg. HS) finishing a 10-play, 57-yard drive.

Each team had a field goal, 25 yards by Stonehill's Matt Haite (Kingston) and 18 yards by Bentley junior Grant Buchanan (Holliston/Holliston HS), in the second quarter and the Falcons carried a 17-10 lead into the half. Bentley possessed the ball for nearly 12 minutes in the quarter but managed only the three points when a 19-play drive came up empty on a missed field goal.

Three of Bentley's first four second-half drives resulted in scores. Artope carried it in from the two, sophomore running back Andrew Brazicki (Franklin Park, N.J./Bishop Ahr HS) caught a screen pass and took it 50 yards to the end zone, and early in the fourth, Sturm teamed up with freshman wide receiver Noah Neville (Boston, Mass./Newton North HS) on a 24-yard TD pass.

Sturm finished 14 of 25 for 227 yards and no interceptions while also scrambling for 18 yards. He distributed the ball to six players with Neville (5 for 73) and Brazicki (4 for 87) leading the Falcons in receiving.

Seven times in the game Bentley went for it on fourth down and the Falcon offense was successful on the first six occasions. McCarthy's first-quarter TD came on a fourth down, Artope ran for first downs twice on fourth downs, Sturm called his own number twice to keep drives alive and Sturm teamed up with Artope for 19 yards on a 4th-and-9.

Wilson achieved his 104 yards on only five carries and Artope established career-bests with 22 carries for exactly 100.

Defensively, Bentley gave up a season-low 220 yards, 80 of which came on the game's opening drive. Kearns, Jr., one of the top rushers in the conference, was held to 93 yards on 17 carries, and junior QB Kyle Smith (Wallingford, Conn.) was only 9 of 21 for 92 yards.

Junior corner Pete Thorbahn (Norwell/Xaverian Bros. HS) made his 11th career interception (and fourth this season) and classmate Will Sheriffs (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS) had his first. The leading tacklers for the Falcons, each with six, were junior free safety Tom Sullivan (Burlington/Malden Catholic HS) and sophomore linebacker Marc Doran (Ramsey, N.J./St. Joseph Regional HS).

Bentley (2-5, 2-4 NE10) will be on the road next week, a 6 pm kickoff at Saint Anselm.
