McDermott Named Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University sophomore free safety Quintin McDermott (Franklin/ Milton Academy) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week following his outstanding performance in Saturday's 17-7 win at Merrimack College.

McDermott was involved in three of the Falcons' five takeaways against the Warriors. He intercepted a pass in the end zone in the first quarter, forced a fumble in the fourth quarter and sealed the outcome with another pick with 3:30 remaining in the contest. His afternoon also included five tackles.

The first-year starter has already forced three fumbles this season and also has been credited with ten tackles.

Also recognized by the conference, with selection to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll, were junior safety Nick Athy (Holliston/Holliston HS) and senior running back Martin Bannerman Jr. (Pawtucket, R.I./La Salle Academy).

Athy matched McDermott's five tackles and also had an interception in the end zone, a fumble recovery and a pass break-up. Bannerman rushed for both of Bentley's touchdowns, a seven-yarder in the third quarter and a two-yarder in the fourth. He finished with 67 yards on 24 carries and also had two receptions for eight yards.

Bentley, 2-1 after winning its first two conference games, will host nationally-ranked LIU Post in its Homecoming Day game this coming Saturday.
