WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior quarterback Mack Lowrie (Foxborough/Roxbury Latin HS) threw three TD passes, including two to former high school teammate Sean Myers (Foxborough/Roxbury Latin HS), and the Falcon defense excelled as Bentley University recorded a 27-7 Senior Day win over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference football Saturday afternoon.

Bentley, which allowed seven or fewer points for the third time in four games this month, took sole possession of third place in the conference while improving to 5-3 overall and 5-2 NE-10. Against the Skyhawks, the Falcon D came up with three interceptions, recorded five sacks, blocked a punt and limited Division II's leading receiver, Andrew Jamiel (West Yarmouth), to only two catches for eight yards.

Leading the defense were freshman corner Peter Thorbahn (Norwell/Xaverian Bros. HS) and junior linebacker Brandon Brown (Oxon Hill, Md./Suitland HS). Thorbahn had a career-best 13 tackles and two break-ups, and Brown finished with 10 stops and a sack. Interceptions, a forte of the 2016 Falcons, were posted by a trio of seniors: corner Lamar Hardy (Centreville, Va./Westfield HS), linebacker Bryan Hardy (Barnstable/Barnstable HS) and safety Sean McDonald (Norfolk/King Philip Reg. HS). The five sacks included a pair from senior Phil Rigoglioso (Ridgewood, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS).

All three of Bentley's three second-quarter touchdowns came after the Falcons capitalized on a short field after taking possession on a short punt, an interception and a blocked punt.

Following a scoreless opening stanza, a 27-yard punt and a 10-yard return by McDonald gave the Falcons the ball on the Stonehill 33. Three plays later, Lowrie found sophomore wide receiver Michael Correia (Fall River/Durfee HS) in the end zone for a 27-yard scoring strike and a 7-0 lead.

Stonehill's next possession ended with Lamar Hardy picking off a pass at the Bentley 48 and taking it 47 yards to the Skyhawk five. Two plays later, Lowrie teamed up with Myers for a 6-yard TD pass, the Falcons' second score in a span of 2:13.

Junior Michael Fawehinmi (Lynn/St. John's Prep HS) blocked a punt a little more than two minutes later and classmate Kyle Wisnieski (Mansfield/Mansfield HS) scooped and returned it 14 yards to the Stonehill 16. A Skyhawk personal foul brought the Falcons even closer, to the eight, and on the third play of the drive, senior running back Matt Montalto (West Yarmouth/Dennis-Yarmouth Reg. HS) ran it in from the five for a 20-0 Falcon advantage.

Stonehill's only score of the afternoon came with just about a minute left before halftime on a 12-yard run up the middle by freshman Brian Kearns, Jr. (North Arlington, N.J.).

Bentley opened the second half with Lowrie going deep to Correia for 56 yards on the first snap of a seven-play, 67-yard drive. The Falcon drive stalled at the 10, forcing a field goal, but the kick was blocked. Falcon junior Vinny Banek (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson HS) was alert on the play, recovering the ball at the four and giving his team first-and-goal. Two plays later, a four-yard pass from Lowrie to Meyers and an extra point from rookie kicker Grant Buchanan (Holliston/Holliston HS) completed the game's scoring with 11:32 remaining in the third quarter.

Statistically, Stonehill had the edge in most categories, although the most important one, the 27-7 on the scoreboard, belonged to the home team. The Skyhawks had the ball for 34:59 and finished with more first downs (19-10), total plays (74-54) and total yards (272-176). However, Bentley was a plus-two in turnover margin and Stonehill was assessed 11 penalties for 103 yards. In contrast, the Falcons had only four for 37 yards.

Lowrie finished nine of 15 for 125 yards with Correia catching two for 83 yards. Senior punter Tyler Ford (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan HS) had another strong effort, averaging 41.4 yards on seven kicks and also running for 16 yards and a first down on a fake punt in the fourth.

For Stonehill, junior QB Matt Foltz (Mount Joy, Pa.) was 21 of 38 for 173 yards, with classmate Kevin Dick (Tewksbury) pulling in 11 for 83 yards.

Bentley's next two games are in Connecticut with the Falcons visiting Southern Connecticut next Saturday and New Haven Nov. 5.
