Waltham News Tribune: "Experience now on Bentley University football team's side"

Scott Souza, sports editor of the Waltham News Tribune, stopped by practice the other day for this update on the Bentley University football team, which begins its season Sept. 3. This article ran in the Aug. 18 edition of the paper and online at www.wickedlocal.com/waltham.

Junior Chery feels like he's back.

All the way back.

The Waltham High alumnus suffered an anterior cruiciate ligament tear during his first week of training camp at Bentley University in 2013. He returned a year later, and played again last season, at safety. Now, entering his senior year, he said he believes the injury is finally fully in his past.

"I feel comfortable," he said prior to Tuesday's workout on campus. "I've been two years removed from (coming back from the injury). I even asked Brooksie (Brooks Farry), our trainer, if I could go with a smaller brace, or without a brace.

"That kind of shows you how I am feeling about my knee. I am feeling pretty strong now."

Bentley third-year coach Bill Kavanaugh said Chery has been strong in the first week of training camp in helping lead an experienced defensive backfield behind a talented, yet let seasoned, defensive front.
