Ford Named 1st-Team All-Northeast-10; 5 Other Falcons Also Recognized

WALTHAM, Mass. – After a record-breaking season, Bentley University junior punter Tyler Ford (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan HS) has been voted to the All-Northeast-10 Conference first team, which was announced Friday afternoon.

Ford was one of six Falcons who were recognized by the conference. The All-NE-10 second team included junior guard Eric Beckwith (North Attleboro/North Attleboro HS), senior nose guard Jeff Amell (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle HS), junior linebacker Bryan Hardy (Barnstable/Barnstable HS) and junior safety Sam McDonald (Norfolk/King Philip Reg. HS). In addition, freshman receiver Drew Mahoney (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield Academy) was a pick for the All-Rookie team.

Ford ranks sixth in Division II in punting with his 43.0 average breaking both the school and conference record. He broke the school single game record three times, put 24 inside the 20 and had 15 punts of at least 50 yards, including a pair of 68-yarders that tied the school record. Ford finished the season with a career norm of 40.3, also a school record.

The six-foot-two, 290-pound Beckwith received second-team recognition for the second straight season. A starter since midway through his rookie season and the owner of the school record in the shot put, he appeared in ten games this season, with eight starts, despite being hampered by injuries for a stretch.

Hardy led the Falcons in tackles for the second straight season, coming within eight of reaching the century mark for the second time. He had double-figure tackles three times, including 11 against both New Haven and American International, and also recorded 7.5 tackles for losses, a sack and a fumble recovery. Hardy will begin his senior season with 211 career tackles.

Amell, who saw action in 32 of 33 games over his final two seasons, was in his second season as a starter in the middle of the d-line.  Five of his 29 tackles resulted in losses and he was also credited with three hurries, two break-ups, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a sack.

McDonald was the only player in the NE-10 with seven takeaways as he picked off five passes, leading the Falcons in that category for the third time in as many years, and recovered two fumbles. Only five active Division II players have more career interceptions than McDonald, and he'll enter his final season tied for fourth in program history with 14.

Mahoney led the Falcons in all-purpose yards, finishing with 824 with most coming on kickoff returns. His 509 yards on kick returns was the third most in the Northeast-10, and his 22.1 average was fifth best. Mahoney's rookie season also included 17 receptions for 160 yards and one score, 29 carries for 135, and two punt returns for 20 yards.

Bentley finished the 2015 season with a 5-6 record.
