Guadagnoli & Richman Named 2014 Bentley Football Captains
WALTHAM, Mass. – Quarterback Danny Guadagnoli (Framingham/Framingham HS) and senior defensive tackle Bob Richman (North Attleboro/North Attleboro HS) have been named captains of the 2014 Bentley University football team, head coach Bill Kavanaugh announced. It's the second straight year that Guadagnoli, a graduate student, will serve as a Falcon captain.
"We have great senior leadership on this team," said Kavanaugh, a former Bentley captain himself (2003). "Danny and Bob have stood out as leaders from day one."
Guadagnoli, a two-time Academic All-Northeast-10 selection who graduated Magna Cum Laude in May, has put together back-to-back standout seasons as the Falcons' starting QB. He ranks in the top six in Bentley history in numerous categories, including total offense (fourth, 6,324) and TD passes (sixth, 38), and has completed 60 percent of his passes during his career.
Last year, during a 6-5 season, Guadagnoli broke the school records for total offense (5,732) and passing yards (3,310), ranking fourth in Super Region 1 in both categories. His season included five 300-yard passing games, including a school record 510 in the season finale against Saint Anselm, a performance that earned him d2football.com Offensive Player of the Week recognition. In addition to his aerial contributions, he also ran for 335 yards and a team-best six touchdowns.
Richman, a six-foot, 260-pounder, has appeared in every game over his first three seasons and started every contest last year.
In 2013, Richman was in on 37 tackles, including four for losses (-12 yards) and 1.5 sacks. That included a career-best six stops against Assumption Sept. 13.
The Northeast-10 Conference preseason coaches' poll was announced on Monday and Bentley was projected to finish eighth. Defending champion American International topped the rankings after receiving nine first-place votes, the most possible since coaches weren't allowed to vote for their own team. New Haven edged out Stonehill for third place.
The Falcons received more support from d2football.com, which forecast Bentley for a second-place finish in its NE-10 preview.
Bentley opens the Kavanaugh era Saturday, Sept. 6 with a 12 noon non-conference home encounter with Mercyhurst University.
