Bentley Athletics Garners Seven Northeast-10 Team Academic Awards

WALTHAM, Mass. –  Seven Bentley University athletic teams have been presented with Team Academic Excellence Awards by the Northeast-10 Conference for the 2010-11 academic year. The awards honor the teams with the highest grade point average in each of the conference's sponsored sports.

Bentley received the prestigious accolade in men's cross country (3.41), men's outdoor track (3.40), men's indoor track (3.40), men's soccer (3.25), men's lacrosse (3.18), men's swimming (3.13) and football (3.00). All seven were repeat honorees from a year ago.

In the two years since the Team Academic Excellence Awards program was launched, Bentley teams have been the recipient of 15 of 46 awards.  This year, Bentley's seven awards matched the total of the next two institutions on the list, Adelphi University and the College of Saint Rose, combined. Adelphi earned four and Saint Rose received three.

Twenty of Bentley's 22 sports that compete in the Northeast-10 posted a team GPA of over 3.0.

Bentley also placed a conference-best 328 student-athletes on the Spring 2011 Northeast-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. That was nearly 100 more than Stonehill, which was second on the list.  Sixty-five percent of Bentley's student-athletes earned a spot on the honor roll.

The Falcons also led the NE-10 in Academic All-Conference selections, with a total of 36 over the course of the year.
