Bob DeFelice is 78 years old. He is, and always has been, the only Bentley University baseball coach, having started the program in 1968.

Long before the coronavirus emptied the playing fields across the land, the Bentley Falcons were playing games in early February, in Florida. They already had 14 games under their belts. The virus was not a hot topic February. Until it became the only topic.

On March 12, at a sweet ballpark called Little Fenway, in Delray Beach, Bentley was playing Bloomfield (N.J.) College. In the fifth inning, via email, DeFelice was commanded to get on the first flight possible and fly home.

For days, this seemed like a scenario waiting to play out. Back north, college and high school spring sports were shut down because of the coronavirus which was gaining frightening momentum.

Bentley had 32 games left on the schedule. None would be played. DeFelice's 52nd consecutive season got stopped cold.
