Bentley Drops a Pair to Rollins, 10-2 and 8-0

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Rollins College took the first two games of a four-game weekend series from Bentley University Friday afternoon, 10-2 in the completion of Thursday's suspended game and 8-0 in the scheduled game, in non-conference baseball at Alfond Stadium. Rollins improved to 5-3 while the Falcons were playing their first two games of the 2020 season.

Bentley's only scoring in the two games came in the first inning on Thursday. Senior first baseman Ryan Berardino (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) had an RBI double and later scored on a ground ball to short by senior shortstop Chris Hopkins (Malden, Mass./Malden Catholic HS).

Four Rollins pitches blanked the Falcons the rest of the way while watching their team take charge with one run in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth. The Tars also scored twice in the seventh and then added one more in the eighth after play resumed Friday. The game was halted in the bottom of the eighth Thursday night after the lights went out.

Rollins totaled 15 hits, including three apiece from junior left fielder Luke Reidy (Brentwood, Tenn.) and graduate DH Jakob Rolly (Winter Springs, Fla.). Rolly had a sacrifice fly in the second, a go-ahead RBI single through the left side and an RBI single during the fourth.

Junior right hander Tate Stone-Frisina (Druid Hills, Ga.) earned the win after pitching the first five innings and allowing five hits. He walked one and struck out six before giving way to the bullpen.

The second game of the series saw Rollins erupt for five runs in the second inning. Senior right fielder Cameron Montgomery (Windermere, Fla.) doubled to left for the game's first run, senior second baseman Devon Ortiz (Winter Springs, Fla.) made it 2-0 with a bases-loaded infield single and the inning also included a sacrifice fly from junior shortstop Adams Torres (Celebration, Fla.).

Meanwhile, senior right hander Drew Daczkowski (Sterling, Va.) pitched six no-hit innings with eight strikeouts. He retired the first 15 batters he faced before walking freshman DH Tim Zupkus (Middlebury, Conn./Holy Cross HS) to start the sixth.

Rollins outhit the Falcons 10-3 with Reidy, Rolly and Ortiz each having two. The Tars received home runs from senior first baseman Jack Gonzalez (Orlando, Fla.) in the fifth and Torres in the seventh.

In the two games, senior left fielder Luke Figueira (Taunton/Taunton HS) had three hits for the Falcons and center fielder Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) began his senior year with two.

The series continues with the two teams playing at 1:00 Saturday and at the same time Sunday.
