Cape Cod Times: OF Max Troiani is taking a chance with baseball over investment banking
Bentley outfielder and rising senior Max Troiani, a standout on the field and in the classroom for the Falcons, was featured in the Cape Cod Times following a strong start to the season with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Max Troiani looked at the aluminum bat he was carrying. All the other guys at Bentley University's baseball tryout had wood. He hadn't realized that the Northeast 10, the Falcons' Division II conference, was the only wood-bat league in the NCAA.
"Can I use your bat?" Troiani had to ask his soon-to-be teammates. "I don't have one."
Troiani didn't come to Bentley for its baseball program. Despite being a second team All-State third baseman in high school in Pittsford, New York, Troiani didn't have any Division I offers. He hadn't marketed himself to schools or scouts. Instead, he wanted a strong economics finance program and was drawn in by the brick buildings and the reputation. Baseball would be a plus, but it wasn't a deal-breaker.
Now that he was at a school with a team — albeit one that gave no athletic scholarships, where everyone had to fend for a walk-on spot — there was no question that he was going to try out. The only question is whether he'd make it.
