WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University first baseman/designated hitter Ryan Berardino (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS), who recently completed his junior season, was drafted in the 34th round by the Boston Red Sox Wednesday during the final day of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft.

Berardino, a three-time All-Northeast-10 selection, batted .296 with 24 runs scored and 22 RBI in the wood-bat NE10 this past season. His 42 hits included seven doubles and a home run, and he was errorless in 211 chances in the field. The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder was the sixth toughest to strikeout in the conference with one every 11.8 at bats.

Berardino, who is scheduled to play in the Cape Cod League this summer for the Falmouth Commodores, was voted to the All-Northeast-10 third team for the second straight season after receiving second-team honors as a freshman in 2017.

The three-year starter for the Falcons owns a career slash line of .309/.387/.414 with his 127 hits including 21 doubles, two triples and six home runs.

Berardino is the sixth player in Bentley history to be drafted, the first since pitcher Rob Finneran in 2012. The last everyday player to be taken in the MLB draft was Mike Hill in 1997.
