Figueira & Troiani Go Deep as Bentley Wins 3rd Straight, 8-7 over Stonehill

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior outfielders Luke Figueira (Taunton/Taunton HS) and Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) each homered to left, and freshman lefty Zachary Zdimal (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) came on for the three-inning save, as Bentley University earned its third straight win, 8-7 over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division baseball Tuesday afternoon at DeFelice Field.

The two combined for five hits and five RBI with Troiani finishing 3-for-5 with three RBI and Figueira 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Figueira opened the scoring with a one-out liner over the left field fence for his seventh home run of the season. Later in the inning, an RBI triple from sophomore shortstop Kyle Halloran (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) made it 2-0 and he scored on a single to left by Troiani.

After Stonehill matched the Falcons with three unearned runs in their next at bat, Bentley reclaimed the lead with five runs in the fourth. Troiani broke the deadlock with a two-run homer, his third of the season and fifth hit in as many at bats dating back to Saturday.

A hit batter, a single and a walk followed to load the bases and senior right fielder Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS), the team-leader in RBI, brought in two with a double to right. The RBI were his 27th and 28th of the season. Following a pitching change, an RBI single by Figueira made it an 8-3 game.

Stonehill drew within one with four runs in the sixth inning, with two of the runs unearned. The big blow was a two-run triple to center by freshman shortstop Noah Lucier (Sandown, N.H.).

Stonehill threatened in each of the final three innings but each time, Zdimal was able to pitch out of trouble. He escaped a second-and-third, two-out situation in the seventh with a strikeout, survived a two-out triple with a ground out in the eighth and stranded two runners on base in the ninth.

Zdimal, who allowed two hits and two walks in his three innings of work, saved the game for sophomore righty Jimmy Hodgson (Newton/Newton North HS). He pitched the middle three and was charged with four runs and three hits.

Bentley took over sole possession of third place in the Northeast Division with the Falcons improving to 6-4 in the division, 12-11 against East Region foes and 12-18 overall. Stonehill dropped to 16-20 overall and 3-7 Northeast.

Next up for the Falcons is a three-game series at Southern New Hampshire. It was originally scheduled to start Friday, but will likely move up to Thursday afternoon due to the weekend's forecast.
