WALTHAM, Mass. – Centerfielder Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS), third baseman Jake Pierce (East Bridgewater/East Bridgewater HS) and junior left fielder Luke Figueira (Taunton/Taunton HS), a trio of seniors, all had five hits as Bentley University swept a doubleheader from Franklin Pierce University, 14-3 and 11-1, in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division baseball Saturday afternoon on DeFelice Field.

In the twinbill, Bentley scored in 11 of 16 innings, including the first six in the opener, and totaled 31 hits. Meanwhile, Falcon pitchers limited the Ravens to a total of 11 hits, including only three in game two.

Bentley set the tone for the day with four runs in the first inning of game one, scoring one more than Franklin Pierce had allowed in the first inning of their first 29 games this seasons.

Graduate student and second baseman Mike Samko (Arlington/BB&N) started the two-out rally with a double to left center. Following an error, senior DH Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) singled up the middle, driving in Samko with the first run. Figueira had an RBI single to right and senior right fielder Gino Fordiani (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) capped the inning with a two-run double to left center.

Bentley built on the lead with one in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and another four-run inning in the sixth.

The Falcons' 17-hit attack included three by each of the outfielders (Troiani, Figueira and Fordiani) with all of Troiani's for extra bases (two triples, one double). Six different Falcons scored twice and Fordiani finished with four RBI.

Senior righty Paul Frisoli (Watertown/Arlington Catholic HS) earned the win, his third in four decisions, after giving up four hits and one run in six innings. He struck out six and survived five walks. Sophomore right hander Jimmy Hodgson (Newton/Newton North) pitched the final three and was credited with the save.

In game two, Bentley waited until the second to jump in front with a four-run inning. Junior catcher Christopher Butler (Danvers/BB&N) and sophomore shortstop Kyle Halloran (Hopkinton/ Hopkinton HS) had RBI singles, a third run scored on a Pierce ground out and Samko drove in the fourth with an infield single.

The Falcons, who outhit the visitors 14-3, opened the game up with two in the third, another in the fourth, three in the fifth and a final run in the sixth inning.

Six different Falcons had at least two hits, including three apiece from Pierce and Halloran. Samko was one of the Bentley players with two and he also collected three RBI.

Junior Lloyd Hill (Milton/Milton HS) combined with three relievers on a three-hitter. The lefty pitched the first six and struck out three for his first win since undergoing Tommy John surgery and missing last season.

The sweep left the two teams tied for third in the Northeast Division, both at 5-4. Overall, Bentley improved to 11-18 and Franklin Pierce dipped to 16-15.

Bentley will conclude a nine-game homestand Tuesday with a 3:30 game against Stonehill.
