WALTHAM, Mass. – Right-handers Paul Fristoli (Watertown/Watertown HS) and Evan Christopulos (Andover/Andover HS) combined on a four-hit shutout, with Christopulos earning his first collegiate win, as Bentley University blanked The College of Saint Rose, 5-0, in the opener of a Northeast-10 Conference baseball doubleheader Sunday afternoon at DeFelice Field.

In the nightcap, Saint Rose came up with four runs in the bottom of the nine to erase an 8-5 deficit and walk off with a 9-8 victory.

Frisoli, a senior, and Christopulos, a sophomore, each scattered two hits and struck out five. Frisoli struggled with his control, issuing seven walks in five innings, but Christopulos faced only two over the minimum in his four innings of work.

Scoreless through six, Bentley, which batted first since the games were supposed to have been played at Saint Rose, jumped on top in the top of the seventh. Grad student and second baseman Mike Samko (Arlington/BB&N) led off with a single to right and scored the game's first run on a double to left center by junior first baseman Ryan Berardino (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS).

Bentley opened the game up in the eighth when both Samko and senior right fielder Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn/Rocky Hill HS) drove in two runs, with Berardino's second double of the game sandwiched in between the two.

The Falcons' ten hits included two apiece from Samko, Berardino and junior left fielder Luke Figueira (Taunton, Mass./Taunton HS).

Game two saw the Falcons jump out to an early 5-0 lead and after Saint Rose battled back to tie, regain the lead with one in the top of the eighth and two more in the ninth.

It was a two-out rally in the eighth with junior third baseman Jake Pierce (East Bridgewater/ East Bridgewater HS) keeping the inning alive with a single up the middle. He raced around from first to score the go-ahead run on Samko's double to left center.

Following two singles and a sacrifice to start the ninth, Bentley extended its lead on a two-run single through the left side by junior center fielder Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS).

A single and two walks set the table for the Golden Knights in the ninth. Junior pinch-hitter Garrett Khar (Latham, N.Y.) brought all three in with a double to right and he scored the game-winner on a single to left center by sophomore right fielder Stephen MacMeans (Plainville).

Bentley outhit Saint Rose, 15-9, with Figueira leading the way with three hits and three RBI in five at-bats. In the twinbill, he was five-for-nine. Troiani, Pierce, Berardino and senior DH Austin Farry (Watertown/BB&N) all had two.

Bentley, 4-12 overall and 1-1 NE10, will return to action Wednesday with a conference divisional game against Merrimack at home (3:30 pm).
